KwaMbili Game Lodge provides an authentic safari experience at an affordable price. KwaMbili is situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve near Hoedspruit, within the Greater Kruger area. The reserve is home to the Big Five as well as an abundance of other game and bird species. This means good sightings, either while out on game drive or on foot during bush walks. KwaMbili means “Place of Two” in the local Shangaan language.
The knowledgeable rangers will introduce you to the tracks, movements, sights and sounds which give you a window into the secrets of the African bush. Back at the lodge, view wildlife from the safety and comfort of our well-positioned hide. If all this calls for time to just let the experience sink in … take a dip in the swimming pool, just relax in an armchair or enjoy a cool drink at the bar.
Accommodation at KwaMbili consists of thatched chalets or large Meru style safari tents. All have shower and toilet and electric power, their own patio and mosquito nets over the beds.
The chalets are positioned closer to the main building and are air-conditioned. Two of the chalets have interleading doors and can be used as a family unit.
The safari tents are further from the main building, each under a thatched roof. The flaps can be opened or closed according to the weather. They also have an open air shower and toilet.
Game drives are carried out in our open 4×4 game drive vehicle driven by one of our rangers who is assisted by a tracker. Their mission is to locate and show you the many animals, reptiles and birds that live out in the bush and to inform you about them as well as the habitat in which they live. Of course the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo – always seem to top the list but you will get to appreciate many other creatures too.
KwaMbili normally offers two game drives a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning game drive leaves around sunrise and returns in time for breakfast. The afternoon game drive leaves in the late afternoon and returns well after sunset, in time for dinner. Both game drives generally last about three hours.
Bush walks offer a unique way of experiencing the bush on foot. An armed ranger will lead the walk, explaining about the bush, especially the smaller things often not covered on game drive. KwaMbili offers a short bush walk of about an hour each morning after breakfast. In addition, for the more adventurous it is possible to arrange to do a longer three hour bush walk instead of a game drive. This is subject to availability and must be booked (well) in advance.
