Conservation
Kapama Game Reserve believes in the important of protecting the environment, community and wildlife, and as such they are involved in numerous conservation initiatives. Kapama’s Anti-Poaching Unit features a dedicated team that patrols the game reserve daily, as well as tracking dogs that search for wildlife traps and poachers.
Both guests and staff accommodation feature solar heating, inverter air-conditioning and heat pump technology. The waste from the lodges is separated and recycled at the reserve’s dedicated recycling plant, and the wastewater is also recycled for re-use. Kapama’s conservation strategy includes the maintenance of the reserve’s soil, grass, vegetation, carrying capacity and alien plants. As Kapama has an agreement with the Animal Production Institute of the Agricultural Research Council, the game reserve is required to monitor the natural resources on the reserve in order to preserve the wildlife and biodiversity in the area.
Elephant Interaction
Elephant interactions are the perfect way to get close to and learn more about these fantastic animals. The experience begins with a brief history of the elephants in the area. Where the Elephant Manager will share the unique story of each elephant in the herd and more information about the bonds formed between them. After this, guests will be introduced to the elephants and given the opportunity to feed and interact with them. The herd consists of 14 elephants, all between the age of 6 and 33 years old.
